Day of miracles - måndag 22 februari, 2016 (video)

2016-02-20 00:18 #0 av: Fredrik1

På måndag den 22 februari 2016 är enligt buddhistisk tradition Day of miracles. En dag då den goda effekten av ens goda handlingar sägs multipliceras 100 miljoner gånger.
Ven. Thubten Chodron berättar om detta i videon.

Från Savasti Abbeys officiella nyhetsbrev:

"Day of Miracles

a day for creating virtue

Merit created on this day is multiplied
100 million times!

The Day of Miracles is one of the four holy days in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar. It celebrates the time when a group of matted-hair ascetics challenged the Buddha to a contest of miracle powers at Sravasti.

Although the Buddha did not want to show his miraculous powers, as this was the only way to subdue these ascetics and help them to develop faith in the Buddhadharma, he performed magnificent miracles each day for 15 days, outshining all opponents.

As a result, the ascetics as well as a huge assembly of devas and humans adopted the Buddhist doctrine, practiced it, and gained spiritual attainments. Subsequent generations continue to be inspired by the Buddha's demonstration of his extraordinary qualities."

"Chotrul Düchen (Wyl. cho 'phrul dus chen), the 'Festival of Miracles' — one of the four major Buddhist holidays. It occurs on the full moon (the fifteenth day) of the first Tibetan month, which is called Bumgyur Dawa. The first fifteen days of the year celebrate the fifteen days on which, in order to increase the merit and the devotion of future disciples,Buddha displayed a different miracle.

As Jikmé Lingpa said:

Through the magical power of your miracles in Shravasti,You rendered speechless the tirthika teachers who,With all their analysis and research, drunk on the wine of indulgence, had become oppressive in the extreme. As you triumphed through ‘the four bases of miraculous powers’."
