Tibet Uprising Day 10 mars

"On 10 March 1959, tens of thousands of Tibetans took to the streets of Lhasa, Tibet’s capital, rising up against China’s illegal invasion and occupation of their homeland. "DHARAMSHALA, MAR. 9: The Nepalese government, which has been criticized for its heavy handedness while dealing with Tibetan refugees, has once again barred the commemoration of the upcoming anniversary of the ‘Tibetan Uprising Day’ altogether. The Tibetan Refugee Welfare Office (the local Tibetan administrative office), Kathmandu, has issued a public notice asking local Tibetans to “refrain from commemorating the 58th Uprising day” following the request for permission by the Tibetan representatives was turned down. The notice has appealed the Tibetans to abide by the rules of the host nation." Källa: http://www.phayul.com/news/article.aspx?id=38749

Statement from Tibet: "Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay delivering March 10 statement. On this day, in 1959, Tibetans from across the social spectrum rose up to stage a defiant yet peaceful uprising against the illegal occupation of Tibet by the People’s Republic of China. Today, as we commemorate the fifty-eighth anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day, we remember and pay tribute to all those who have sacrificed their lives for our nation’s struggle. Till date, an estimated million Tibetans have perished and 98% of monasteries were destroyed under the Chinese occupation."
