Wheel turning day 16/7 Sravasti Abbey

Från Sravasti Abbey: "On Monday, July 16, we celebrate Wheel Turning Day, recalling Shakyamuni Buddha's first teaching after his awakening — the Four Truths of the Aryas, also called the Four Noble Truths. In that teaching, the Buddha described the unsatisfactory nature of our lives — marked by birth, aging, sickness, and death — and the causes of our suffering. He also described the possibility of freedom from these sufferings and the path to bring about that freedom. How fortunate we are to have encountered these precious teachings! Wheel Turning Day is an important time to reflect on the Buddha's teachings — how they benefit us and others. It's also a good time to create the merit — the good karmic causes — necessary to continue your practice in the future. Merit-making practices for Wheel Turning Day include: • Take time to watch Ven. Thubten Chodron's short video talk "The Story Behind Wheel Turning Day." • Early Monday morning, take the 8 Mahayana Precepts. • Watch Ven. Chodron's introductory teaching on the Four Truths from the Gomchen Lamrim. https://thubtenchodron.org/2016/05/meditating-on-suffering/ • Continue your study with Venerable's series of teachings on the 16 Attributes of the Four Truths of the Aryas, which helps us understand our situation in cyclic existence. http://thubtenchodron.org/series/attributes-of-true-dukkha-bbcorner-series/
