When we think about the suffering of sentient beings together with our own suffering, we are taking on the suffering of others. This has two benefits. First, your own suffering decreases if you take on the suffering of others. Then, to eliminate any grasping at suffering, meditate on emptiness, visualize the deity, or visualize the fire of tummo and think that as your intrinsic awareness burns away your suffering, you are thus relieved. The suffering of yourself and others will truly be eliminated, as there is only one suffering. This suffering is collected into one mass and then burned away by the fire of intrinsic wisdom awareness, the union of emptiness and compassion.
