"Thinking of self-importance has become a very strong habit. In order to change it, we need to refocus. Instead of concerning ourselves with "I" all of the time, we must redirect our attention to "you" or "them" or "others."
Reducing self-importance lessens all of the attachment that arises from it. When we focus outside of ourselves, we will eventually realise our shared equality with all other beings. Everybody wants happiness, and nobody wants to suffer. Our desire for our own happiness will then expand and become a desire for the happiness of all."
